Do you have young teens and preteens? Do you remember your own education in sexuality mostly from fourth or fifth grade public school classes and things you heard from movies, television shows and peers? Do you want a better, more Biblical education in sexuality for your child?
I know I do. So, when I received an opportunity to take a peek at Dennis and Barbara Rainey’s Passport2Purity Getaway Kit, I knew that I wanted to be able to look and see if it would be appropriate for my own children as I have one nearing these critical years in forming a Biblical view of sexual development, temptation and activity.
What the Kit Includes
This kit includes several components. There’s a CD set with scripture memory songs, skits, real life stories and teaching. There’s a travel journal with room to take notes from the CD seasons, answer reflection questions on the sessions and hands-on activities, and a twenty-five day follow-up devotional. There’s also a parent journal with teaching tips, scheduling tips, a copy of the listening guides from the student journal, and the directions for the hands-on activities. There’s also a getaway checklist so that, if you’re packing for a weekend trip with your child, you can make sure you have everything you need.
Everything in the kit is high-quality and appealing, making it a fun learning too in a subject that is often difficult for both parents and children.
My Opinion on this Product
When I received this product, I had every intention of using it with Firecracker. He’s right around the age when I started receiving my first sex ed at school, and I thought it might be an appropriate way to introduce this material to him. However, when I actually started going through and listening to the materials, I realized that he wasn’t ready for them yet. Homeschooling does equal staying sheltered just a tad bit longer in our house, and I imagine that he’ll go through them in a year or two successfully.
I don’t think we’ll do a weekend getaway though to do this. I understand the idea as a retreat or conference, and because we homeschool and our daily lives are so entwined, I don’t want to make sexuality a big “secret” thing that can only be spoken of and introduced in a special weekend away. Having said that, I think that the materials are a great start and entry point for a Christian parent into these discussions with my children, so I will be using them to introduce these concepts to my children in a younger teen/preteen appropriate way as a part of our regular days.
If you want to check out these materials and see if this product might be for your family, you can visit Passport2Purity’s website here or go directly to this link for purchase.
