Sometimes fear is a powerful weapon that prevents us from doing the things that we really want to do in life. I’ve often felt its power, and sometimes I see it’s effects in the lives of those that I love. So, when I received the opportunity to review What Keeps You Up at Night?: How to Find Peace While Chasing Your Dreams, I found myself hoping for something that would help myself and those I loved to overcome fear in their lives.
The author deals with fear quite handily near the beginning of the book, because as he says
…most of the time we don’t really have a fear problem; we have a trust problem. When we focus on our fears, we stop focusing on God; we assume a position in the universe that we don’t own. We stop trusting God and start trying to control things we can’t control and manipulate circumstances we can’t manipulate.
Much of the rest of this book is dedicated to following your dreams. Wilson speaks to things such as how to know that this is God’s dream for your life, the opposition you might face on the way, learning to wait on God and giving up your goals for your life to be a part of the plan that God truly has for you.
This is all great stuff, and if you have a dream or feel like you might have a calling from God this is a great book to start with. However, if you’re just looking for a book that is going to help you to face your fears, this might not be the best book for you as most of the discussion and ideas are geared towards helping you fulfill the purpose that God has for your life.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
