God, Me and Sweet Iced Tea {A Litfuse Publicity Group Review}

God, Me and Sweet Iced Tea

I love new devotionals, so when I received the opportunity to review God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea: Experiencing God in the Midst of Everyday Moments by Rose Chandler Johnson, I was excited to have a new book to turn to for inspiration.  And, I was not disappointed.

Book Description

God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea is described by the publisher in inviting terms:

In the South, nothing is more refreshing than a glass of sweet iced tea. Nothing, that is, except experiencing God in those small, everyday moments. God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea is a deeply personal collection of spiritual treasures designed to help readers experience new mercies each morning. Seasoned with insight and grace, this tender devotional points to the divine presence of God in everyday moments. Whether purchased as a personal resource or given as heartfelt gift, God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea will help readers develop a daily habit of turning to God in those quiet moments of reflection.

This book includes approximately fifty devotionals.  Each devotional contains:

  • A focus scripture
  • Some reflections and life experiences from the author
  • Suggested scripture for further reading
  • Two journaling considerations with lines for writing in the book
  • A short prayer
  • A one sentence summary of the day’s reflections called the “sweet tea moment”
  • An idea for focusing your prayer

My Thoughts

I found this book to be a quick and helpful devotional to read and work through as I had a few minutes in the morning.  Although each written reflection is short (for this wordy girl), they are deeply impacting when paired with the journaling questions and the additional scriptures for further study.

Many of the devotions stayed with me throughout the day and on into my week as I continued to ruminate on them.  Lines such as, “Each day is a pure gift of love from God.  I can’t make a day.  It’s not my day to do with as I please, no matter how smugly I plan it out.” are lines  that can even change a life as you reflect on them with the additional scripture, journaling and prayer recommended by Johnson.

You can read more reviews at the main Litfuse page for this book.
