Easy Olympic Torches

Yesterday my hubby had the day off from work, so we went to the Tennessee Aquarium.  Apparently half of Tennessee wanted to go there too, so it’s just as well that I had bought the annual membership when we were up there in May.

My kids are such penguin fanatics that  I think it’s worth it to them to just be able to go and see the penguins!  Here are the boys all pressed up against the penguin tank, watching one swim toward them.

Later, we spent the evening playing at home, and I thought it was time to introduce a little bit of the Olympics into their vocabulary.  So, we looked online at the torch videos and decided to make our own.  All we did was to decorate construction paper, roll it into a cone shape and attach orange, yellow and red tissue paper at the top.  They used tape to attach it, and there’s something about kids and tape where they use a lot! 🙂

Firecracker used the opportunity to pretend to be “The Human Torch” with his torch.  Monkey started hitting all his stuffed animals with them and saying things like “Oh no, Mickey’s on fire.”  Rose at least ran with her torch a little like I was picturing.  The downfall of paper torches is that they are not made to withstand the abuse that Monkey was heaping on them.  Also, he and Firecracker were batting at each other with them like they were swords!
